You Can't Sneak Up On Your Dog

Did you know that your dog is capable of learning the sound of your vehicle? No matter what you drive, your pooch will eventually learn the sound of it and know when you return home. They will hear you coming before you pull into the drive. Not only that, they will memorize the sound and rhythm of your foot steps approaching the door. They know the difference between you and your neighbors. You just can't sneak up on your dog!

So much for that surprise party!!

Oh Well.

  1. How very true! My dogs always knew/know the sound of my car and come out to greet me when I come home. When I pull up to the house the Grodons are all waiting for their dad to take them for a walk and make them dinner. That's half the fun of coming home every night!

  2. so true! according to my hubby, my old yellow lab used to perk up at the sound of my decelerating Honda in front of our place before i ever turned into the driveway - 1/4 mile away since we're set off the road that far. :)

  3. LOL! You are so right Karen! My dogs are the same way. Our son seldom comes to the house and yet before he even gets to the driveway, Jack knows that his boy is near! Naturally, they both go berzerk when Daddy is close and I can hear them barking and carrying on when I stop at the mailbox, after going to the store. Two happy faces are looking at me through the front window!

  4. I can second that observation. Our dogs all recognise the sound of our two trucks, and the ATV. But if any other car stops in the drive and the barking is almost unbearable!

They also recognise just by sound when I put on my walking boots, or pick up my dog whistle or the bike keys, and of course their food bowls rattling!

  6. I have read that our dogs can hear the high frequency sounds the engines of our cars make from up to a mile away. I know they can discern our vehicles from the hundreds they listen to all day also. No one will ever be more happy to see you each and every day when you come home.

  10. here, here...I beleive that! Hurricane hears EVERYTHING! and hears my husband's car before he even drives in. It is actually quite comical to watch him.
thanks for stopping by and leaving your kind thoughts. We do not have school tomorrow with the lines still down but I think that's a good thing; perhaps they can get some of the damage dleaned up.
    take good care...

  11. I TRY to sneak home. They usually don't hear my car, but as soon as I close my door (even when I try to do it as quietly as possible) the barking starts and I hear them race through the house to greet me :)

  13. Chester used to lay in our yard till he could hear neighbor Jeff coming out of a stop sign 3 blocks away. He would then get up and go lay in the street forcing Jeff to stop before he could turn into his driveway. Chester would then stand up and stretch and slowly move to the side of the road. Jeff was always teasing Chester (in a fun way), so I guess this was just chesters way of getting his 'digs' in. Truly funny to watch.
