Springset A Sure Thing - "Peat"

It was 10 years ago today when Peat, Springset A Sure Thing, died. He was MY first Gordon Setter and I loved him like family. He was 14 years old when he died and Dan swears he pointed over 5000 grouse in his lifetime. He made a reputation for himself, and us. He taught us more about grouse hunting, than we taught him. He was always A Sure Thing. That's why I named my business, Sure Thing Gordon Setters, after him. HE started it all, and HE made it what it has become. He is buried on our property, in a special place, with 4 other Gordons around him. I like to picture them all running and "Kangaroo" hopping through the tall grass in a big open field, with grouse scent filling the air. Ears flopping, nose high and a spirit that will live on forever.

We miss you Peat. We always will buddy. You were the best bird dog ever and the most loving and forgiving of our mistakes. Thank You for your love, devotion, and 14 wonderful years of hunting.

In My Blog List, there are links to some of the articles that have been written about Peat, if you want to learn more about him.

  1. Hard to believe 10 years have passed. I had the privilege of getting to hunt behind Peat back in 94, 95 and 96. What a remarkable dog, what brains, what a nose! It was remarkable to watch him work. I have seen him pin bird's to the hunter.

I was fortunate to get 2 dogs from Peat's line - Moxie in 1993, a Peat x Celtie female; and Cassie in 2002 - one of Peat's great granddaughters. He truly was something special. Thank-you for 16 wonderful years.
