Grouse love Snow berries this time of year, after most of the rest of the berries are gone. You may find Grouse still in groups, or in singles, but either way, there's a good chance if you've got a healthy snow berry bush around, eventually you'll see some grouse there.

Dog-Gone Cute Bed & Breakfast

Dog Bark Park Inn Bed & Breakfast
Photos Provided By Dog Bark Park
Ever wondered what it'd be like to crawl inside the head of a Beagle? Well, me neither.....until now. At the Dog Bark Park Inn, located in Cottonwood, Idaho, you can do just that. As a matter of fact, you can spend the whole night there! This charming little bed & breakfast offers a unique twist to "getting a room for the night". Owners, and chainsaw artists, Frances Conklin and Dennis Sullivan designed and built these adorable beagles and one of them will be your room, if you stay there! There is no phone or tv, but they promise privacy and a starry night to view from the balcony. Beagles have balcony's? This one does! Breakfast is home made muffins and goodies, fruit, cheese, coffee and juice. They even have a gift shop where you can purchase one of these cute little dogs for yourself. I've added a link to Dog Bark Park Inn, in our favorites, or you can click on the title. Check them out for complete details, rates and amenities.

Shooting Streak Ended
I went to a creek bed with Blackie, Jack and Grace yesterday afternoon. The weather had been rain with high winds for several days. Yesterday was beautiful and I was sure every Grouse in the woods would be out for a snack or just hangin' out in the sun. Blackie pointed 3 birds and I got a shot at the first. It launched like a rocket from left to right at a very steep angle, and......I MISSED. I had a streak of 7 in a row going and I knew it wouldn't last. I'm not that good a shot and have an average more like 30% on Grouse. The next streak could be 7 shots, no Grouse!! DWT

Tennis Ball Mouth
Do you have a Gordon Setter that is a tennis ball FREAK? One of those Gordons that will bug you all day, every day, to throw the tennis ball for him. He carries it around. Drops it at your feet. You try to hide it, and he won't let you out of his site? Well if you do, your Gordon is in danger of ruining his teeth. If he's the type that carries the ball in his mouth all day and chews on it constantly, he could develop Tennis Ball Mouth. According to Daniel Lauridia, DMV at Dogged Health.Com, tennis balls are made of a material that can actually harm your dogs teeth. A dogs tooth has several layers, sort of like our human teeth, and constant chewing on tennis balls can wear down the enamel and continue damaging the tooth through the dentin layer until it reaches the pulp cavity. If the dentin layer is showing, there will be tiny brown holes visible on his teeth. The tiny brown holes can become infected and cause your Gordon pain and be a risk for other health problems. If your dog already has these little brown holes, stop the tennis ball play and seek advice from your veterinarian. Dr. Lauridia recommends non-abrasive rubber toys such as Kongs. Limit the dogs access to tennis balls but they're okay once in a while as a special treat. Your dogs good health depends a lot on healthy teeth and gums.

September Grouse Report
This was the hottest September I can remember. Nearly 90 degrees almost every day. Hunting was pretty much early morning and late afternoons. We finished up the month with 129 Ruffed Grouse flushed and 23 in the bag. I shot way better than average with 7 up, 7 down. Happy had a great month. His point on a covey of 10 and the big male I got over him were the highlights of my season, so far. We have had an 11 month old pup here, Jack, for some work. Been taking him out about every other day. A Blackie X JJ male that has all the makings of a fine bird dog . Jack has a very classy point and loves birds. He works at 50 to 75 yards and handles like a dream. We are looking forward to seeing him hunt in the future. The leaves are turning now and it's looking more like fall every day. I'm looking forward to some cooler weather and autumn colors in the woods. DWT
Arthritic Treatments For Your Gordon (follow up)
I'm still waiting to hear from the Vet on the ACell Vet Injections. I didn't have a keyboard for 2 days. Spilled my coffee in my Apple keyboard Saturday morning. What a way to start the day! But, I did use the time to search around somewhat, online, and I have learned that there are several versions of this sort of "medicine". There seems to be at least some complaints with them all, and they all seem to have some testimonials that swear it works. The ingredients vary slightly from one to the other. Some are injections, some are drops that are put in your dogs water or food. To tell you the truth, who knows what to believe?! I've decided to wait to hear from the vet and then see what he says about the stem cell research. I believe in that, more that anything. As soon as I find out something, I will get it blogged. But let me say this, if you have dog in need, and your looking for something, the best thing to do is go to the veterinarian that you trust and ask what is available. Every individual has to research the side effects, the cost, and the company providing the treatment. Then, and only then, can you make the decision to use it or not. I am not an expert and frankly, I'm just as confused as anyone else on this issue! Only you can decide whether your dogs conditions warrants the risks with any treatment.

Condolences to Bob and Rose Marie
We are very sorry to hear, Bob and Rose Marie lost their beloved Gordon Setter today, "Rusty" . He was a son of Kerry Tunison's "Thunder" and our "Rosie." He was a great hunting dog and wonderful family member. He can never be replaced but Bob and Rose Marie are looking for a puppy, and if anyone knows of one available, please let us know.
